Be sure to keep in mind the face shape and build of the person wearing the cowboy hat. Following these guidelines will keep the cowboy hat the same basic shape as the face, allowing it to blend nicely with the face while flattering the build.
Face shape
Slender or heart shape: An individual with a slender or heart-shaped face must have a well-tapered crown with a narrow brim. This will enhance and flatter the shape of the face.
Round face: This person needs a full crown and should choose only a slight taper if any. The brim of the cowboy hat should be a medium width and flatset, rather than sharply rolled.
